Choosing the Right University for You

Choosing the best fit for your academic life can be an overwhelming task.  However, the task becomes less burdensome when the student thinks about their values, goals, and interests.  Students that have values related to diversity and faith may choose to connect with either historically black colleges or tribal colleges, while those with interest in faith oriented universities may choose private schools such as Liberty University, that offers various degree options for students.

When thinking about your goal for attending college, ask yourself what you want to accomplish from the experience.  If you could only attend school for three reasons, what would those reasons be? Think about how education will not only benefit you, but also your family, perhaps the local community.

A student with an interest in engineering may choose to look at a program that like one of the many Cal State Universities that offer a variety of such programs.  Yet, a student seeking to apply for a psychology major has many choices because a lot of universities offer psychology.

I encourage each student to take the time to think about their values, goals, and interests for attending college.  If you are not certain, then speak with your parents and/or guidance counselor to help you brainstorm potential ideas.
