If you are a student reading this post that feels intimidated about college, then listen closely. College is not about how brilliant a student can appear; rather, college is about resiliency and determination. Students that constantly remind themselves that they can do well in school regardless of set backs will do better than those who are too discouraged to put the effort into their work. Never let the potential of lack of opportunities stop you from pursuing your dreams.
College will require hard work. Students should study daily. College students have to develop time management skills. Of course, students must pay attention during their lecture classes. However, the consistency of doing these activities with determination that one will do well leads to a good result, graduation and accomplishment.
Every student, no matter their background, has the potential to succeed. Personally, I believe that lack of resources prevents many talented and intelligent individuals from moving towards their dreams. Today, I want to encourage students not to let go of their dreams to become counselors, lawyers, psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and so forth. While college may seem like a lengthy task, remember that time will go by whether or not a student has a wonderful or less than desired career.
Take the time to invest in yourself. Invest in yourself emotionally, socially, physically, and academically. Do not allow the greatest investment of your life go to waste-your brain. So, for each student that has many doubts about attending college, turn every negative reason into a positive reason of why you must do it and the benefits. After doing that exercise, ask yourself if the pros outweigh the cons.
